Sweet and Sour Veal

Ingredients

  • 60 mL (1/4 cup) flour
  • 750 g (1 1/2 lb) stewing veal cubes
  • 45 mL (3 tablespoons) vegetable oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, cubed
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, cubed
  • 1 can (398 mL/14 oz) pineapple chunks, with juice
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) orange juice
  • 60 mL (1/4 cup) brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) sweet and sour dipping and glazing sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 60 mL (1/4 cup) fresh parsley, chopped

Preparation

  1. Coat the cubes of veal with flour and shake off the excess. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the veal, garlic and bell peppers to the pan.
  2. Cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes or until the meat is thoroughly browned on all sides. Cook the veal cubes in 2 lots if necessary. Add the pineapple and juice, along with the orange juice and brown sugar.
  3. Turn the heat down to low, cover and cook for 30 minutes. Add the sweet and sour dipping and glazing sauce, salt, pepper, and fresh parsley. Cook for another 5 minutes. Serve with white rice and snow peas
