Ingredient
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (250 mL) milk
- 3 tbsp (45 mL) melted butter
- 4 cups (1 L) all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) baking powder
- 1/2 tsp (2 mL) nutmeg
- Vegetable oil
Preparation
- In large bowl, beat eggs with sugar. Stir in milk and melted butter. Sift together flour, baking powder and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients gradually to egg mixture. Mix well until dough is smooth.
- On well-floured surface, roll to 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick. Cut into preferred size (with pastry-cutter or glass) and make holes in the centre. Drop doughnuts slowly one at a time, into hot oil and fry until golden.
- Remove from frying pan, drain on paper towels and sprinkle with icing sugar. Serve immediately or store in cool place.
