Velvet crum cake

cake

  • 1 1/2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or water
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg

coconut topping

  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk

cake

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 9-inch round pan or 8-inch square pan.
  2. In large bowl, beat cake ingredients on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly.
  3. Beat on medium speed 4 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.
  4. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; cool slightly.

coconut topping

  1. In small bowl, stir together topping ingredients. Spread topping over cake. Set oven control to broil.
  2. Broil about 3 inches from heat 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown.
