- 1 1/2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk or water
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
coconut topping
- 1/2 cup flaked coconut
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 2 tablespoons milk
cake
- Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 9-inch round pan or 8-inch square pan.
- In large bowl, beat cake ingredients on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly.
- Beat on medium speed 4 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; cool slightly.
coconut topping
- In small bowl, stir together topping ingredients. Spread topping over cake. Set oven control to broil.
- Broil about 3 inches from heat 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown.
