Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry dough
- 1 egg yolk, diluted in a little water
- Apple Compote
- 6 Golden Delicious apples
- 15 ml (1 tbsp) lime juice
- 100 ml (2/5 cup) apple juice (or cider)
- 30 ml (2 tbsp) unsalted butter
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) maple syrup
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) maple sugar (or sugar)
- 3 pinches ground cinnamon
Directions
- Peel apples, cut them into quarters and drizzle with lime juice. Heat butter in a skillet and add apples and juice. Cook until liquid has completely evaporated. Add syrup and bring to light caramelized texture. Crush apples coarsely with a fork and set aside.
- Spread the puff pastry and cut out 12 cm (5-in) circles. Then brush egg yolk and water mixture all around the pastry circles. Place 30 ml (2 tbsp) of apple compote in the center of the pastry, fold over (resulting pastry resembles a half-moon) and seal edges by pressing with a fork.
- Place turnovers on a slightly damp baking sheet, sprinkle with maple sugar and cinnamon. Bake in oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 25 minutes.
