Ingredients
- 1 pouch (250 g) Shirriff* Added Touch* White Cake Mix
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup (50 mL) cold water
- 2 Tbsp (30 mL) vegetable oil
- 1-1/2 tsp (7 mL) Blue Ribbon® Ground Cinnamon
TOPPING
- 1 medium apple, thinly sliced (peeled or unpeeled)
- 1/4 cup (50 mL) chopped walnuts or pecans
- 2 Tbsp (30 mL) granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp (2 mL) Blue Ribbon® Ground Cinnamon
Preparation
- Grease bottom of 8in (20 cm) square pan and dust with flour. In small bowl blend cake mix, eggs, applesauce, water, oil and cinnamon at low speed until moistened. Beat at medium-high speed for 2 minutes.
- Scrape bottom and sides of bowl. Resume beating at medium-high speed for 2 minutes. Pour into pan.
Topping
- Arrange apple slices on top, sprinkle with nuts. Combine sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over top.
- Bake at 350°C (180°C) for shiny metal pan and 325°F (160°C) for dark non-stick pan for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on rack. Cut into squares.

Makes 9 servings.
VARIATION: For light cake, prepare as directed, using 1 egg and omit the oil.

TIP: For best results, use Mcintosh, Spartan, Idared or other cooking apples
